Is a large soft typical backpacker's backpack with 2 metal stays down the back soft enough to make the regulation for these small planes? thanks, Julie

Absolutely. In Zambia, we were told 'bags without wheels' but people brought them anyway with no problem. The pilots will love you with only a large backpack. I saw plenty of those. I guess the only tip I'd give is to leave some 'squishing' room in the pack - don't pack it too tightly.

Most people had duffels. I once brought a duffel with wheels, and once a duffel without. I truly preferred the wheels for the big airports, but even though mine was a light one without the heavy frame and handle, I left it home last trip because I needed that last pound!
