ngorongoro lodging - do i have a choice IN the crater?

hi-
a family friend talked about staying in the crater when they visited decades ago.
are there any such options today? if so, can you kindly tell me how to contact these companies?
secondly...if that is no longer available, do you recommend one rim lodge's location and safari services over another? i am less concerned with the "luxury" aspects of the accommodations. thanks!

i am thinking no one has responded because my question is akin to asking "can i swim to hawaii" but hopefully one of you will see that it had been done and maybe will know whom to contact? thanks.

Ive heard of camping in the Crater, but rarely does one see information on this, if it is even still allowed.

Suggest you do a search on this board for in-country outfitters (tour operators) in Tanzania, and when these threads appear in the left column, send an email to one or two of them and make inquiry.

Kerikeri: It is to my understanding that camping is no longer allowed on the crater floor. Camping is allowed at predesignated sites on the rim.

You have to be off of National Park lands by sunset, usually 6:30pm.
