Dealing with the heat
I will be visiting Egypt and Jordan in September 2010. I am looking forward to the trip, but not looking forward to the heat. How did you all manage with the heat of the desert? Any tips? I am considering carrying some baby wipes with me! Other ideas?

One of those little fans that also sprays a fine mist of water.

Wet bandana around the neck! There's also some neck gadget that can be filled with cold water (or ice) for this purpose. Check Magellen's (or other travel supply magazine); maybe at REI (travel equipment/cloths supplier).
Baby wipes work for any number of reasons even if it's not the heat. But do have a hat and plenty of water and do try to find shade wherever for a brief time of relief. |
Wear those synthetic sport clothings that wick off the moisture. Wear hat or scarf over the head. Drink plenty of water. Carry a small sport towl to wipe off the sweat.

A really neat invention is the Tilley Cobber neck wrap (http://www.tilley.com/detail.asp?gen...productNo=TA35), you soak it in cold water for 20 minutes, which expands a gel inside of it and then wear it (around neck or as a headband). It stays cold for 2-3 days, then you just soak it again and reuse.
I didn't use this in Egypt but in Cambodia, wish I had it in Egypt though. It worked really well. |
Drink water - Drink Water - DRINK WATER
This can NOT be said enough! Dehydration will make you feel like you've been poisoned if you let yourself get there. |
Thank you so much for this info-I just ordered 2 for our trip to Egypt in Sept-you guys are the best resources-Chris
