Day in Nairobi

We have 2 full days in Nairobi before our safari begins in Sep and a friend recommended that we might want to go up to Nakuru. We are doing the usual things day 1 with a guide, so this might be ok. Does this make sense? Is it worth it this time of year?

Hallo,
There are alot of things to do in Nairobi before your safari starts, you can visit, mamba village, Bomas of Kenya, Sherdrick orphanage, Nairobi National Park, Museums, etc.
It is also an idea to travel to Nakuru for an overnight, but i dont think there is much to do. How is your itenerary like? which places are you visiting?

Hi JAYINTX

Nakuru can be added on the way to Mara - or r u joining an organized tour?
Give us details of your safari please for further advice.

Naivasha is a good place to spend another night out with lots of activities from boating to ascending a beautiful volcano (Longonot), birdwatching horseriding watching steam-jets to wlking among wildife.
i'd easily trade Nairobi activties with Naivasha's...

The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Manor should keep you busy for 1 day in Nairobi. You may want the other to recover frm your flight?

We are spending 2 days in London before the trip to acclimate to the time change. With the overnight to Nairobi, I've found that an Ambien will get us there refreshed and ready to go. Day of arrival (6:05AM) we are doing the Sheldrick wildlife preserve and Nairobi NP. I'm not so excited about Giraffe Manor, and I think it's very expensive to stay there. We are staying at the Hilton, both nights booked, so not interested in overnighting anywhere else. We inquired about Nakuru because a friend was there 2 years ago and managed to find 3 white rhinos (he actually hired a cab to take them there and back and drive around the preserve - said it was the only time he was frightened the entire trip!) Just seemed like a possibility if we could get a guide for the day. The bomas sound like a good idea also. Basically just looking for day trips.

I saw this day trip to Lake Nakuru while looking at various safari websites:

It's possible to go for the day but will take around 2.5 hours each way from Nairobi. Naivasha is about an hour closer to Nairobi.
