Day in Aswan

We have a free day in Aswan before heading to Abu Simbel. Does anyone have any suggestions about what not to miss while we are there. We are staying at the Aswan Oberoi and hoping to have lunch or dinner at the Old Cataract if possible. Thanks

Check out the Nubian Museum, open about 5-yr. has lots of interesting history. An open-air museum mostly, so it's best to go early in the day (believe they're closed mid-day) or later in the afternoon.

And, of course, there's always shopping. Mid-day should be centered around the pool or under a shade tree.

A good guidebook, I'm sure will have more specifics for Aswan.

Remember - it is very hot in Aswan so keep your activities to very early or late in the day.

The Nubean museum is a must. It's in a beatiful new building and very well organized. A trip to the island temple at Philae is also well worth your time. November should be pleasant temperatures. Skip shopping until after the sun sets, the bazaar comes alive then and is something you will always remember. Also bargain for everything, especially at the bazaar.
