Damascus - off the beaten track
 

I'm considering joining a tour of Syria and have some free time in Damascus. The tour will take us to all the usual tourist areas but where should explore in Damascus that's a bit more off the beaten track and interesting? I loved to wander the streets, stop and have a coffee and explore...

This isn't really off the beaten path, but I spent about 8 or 9 days days in Damascus and, although I went all over the city, I never got tired of the old city. If I were you, I would just wander around the various sections of the old city - lots of places to duck in, grab a tea, etc. My favorite was Beit Jabri - lots of tourists and locals go there - I went in there almost every day at some point to read and have a snack.

I agree with maxwell as the old city(Bab Touma) is so fascinating and fun to wander. The souk is also a great place to spend some time and there is some good shopping in Damascus.

Something I didn't have time to do was go to the Four Seasons and watch the sheiks with their falcons checking in.

If you dont travel yet, you can also try to find thru social media, a local person.
This to be informed in the way Syria people see it. I believe like that you will also be able to find all the hidden sights.
