Custom Morocco guide recommendations requested

I'm a female that is intending to travel to Morocco in the spring of 2016. For various reasons I have decided to hire a guide rather than go solo. I would appreciate any comments about guides that you recommend, or don't recommend. Here's a quick description of me to help:

I would like a personal guide, not a group, and would like a custom itinerary. Large cities are ok, but I prefer to spend more of my time in rural, off-the-beaten-path areas. I'm not too interested in the Atlantic coast or the southern disputed area. The trip will be about 2 weeks long. Budget travel doesn't bother me; when I travel in the states, I typically stay in places like TravelLodge and eat sack meals. I'm hoping to get exposure to the Moroccan culture, not just the sights.

Any suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated. If you have time, I'd like to know your favorite and least favorite thing about the guide.

Thanks,

Renee

Hi I went on tour solo and my guide was very respectful, caring and fun! Least favorite thing is he smokes but not that much. I went several times to morocco, different experiences but you can somehow combine the desert tour with a night in the middle of the desert and a nomad homestay in the saghro mountains. So so cool. Together with obviously Marrakech, fes maybe Chefchaoen, my favorites.

I cannot write much apparently about the guide and agency I went with (even though that is what you specifically asked) as I risk getting account closed....If you want more details email me ( find it on my profile, click on my name) and I will give you all the contacts and show u photos too if you want.

Good luck!

monsh: As long as you are not advertising you can post details. If you have had posts deleted, it is probably because the moderators thought they looked like you were promoting some company. On Fodors we generally post all advice in the treads and don't ask for private communications/e-mails (that is another hint that someone might be advertising)

I used Journey Beyond Travel (at the recommendation of others on this board) and was extremely happy. I worked primarily with the owner, Thomas, who was very flexible in developing an itinerary that suited our requests and travel style. Honestly, no complaints. The trip was fantastic. Maybe someday I'll post a trip report. :)

janisj: believe me its so confusing what you can or cannot do. Sad thing its not consistent. For example the post above me. Isn't he/she mentioning an agency and the owner/guide?????

after having my comment removed i was super careful and followed others who refer to their profile and there you can find 'website'. I dont have a 'website' as i am a traveller not an agency so i put an email which i use for travellers to post info to me and vice versa....

wish fodors could answer to this instead of just deleting accounts....

abby97 has been posting on Fodors since 2004, on a number of different countries.

Morocco attracts far more than its share of advertisers. I would expect that a new poster, posting only for a specific guide/company in Morocco, is suspect until proven otherwise. Especially if those posts show up multiple times.

We just returned form 2 1/2 weeks in Morocco with two different private guide -drivers. Our original guide could not accommodate our full time so we a colleague of his for the first four days. They were both wonderful. We found Morocco to be a great experience. The people are lovely, the food yummy and the Riads are amazing. Email me if you want the names of the guides.

My advice is to book in advence, use travel website (Ex: We used Tripadvisor) to find the right guide .
