Crossing into Israel from Jordan at the Arava Border

We are being transferred from Petra and just "dropped off" at the border crossing. How difficult is it to get across the border without a guide helping you. We are being met by an Israeli guide on the other side. Anyone know what the procedure is to get across without difficulty?

We crossed the border from Eilat to Al Aqaba and return 2 yrs ago by ourselves and had no problems. We bought our visa stamp and walked across the border to Jordan and walked back across to Eilat. The only problem we had was that the taxi in Jordan did not meet us as arranged and with the help of the Jordanian army at the border and local people we were able to get a taxi driver to take us to Petra. It does not take long to cross and many people were crossing in both directions. It's straightforward just follow the directions posted and there are staff available to ask too.

The procedure is quite straight-forward - and, unless you have a guide who will be crossing into Israel with you, which is highly unlikely, you will have to go it alone anyway.

We are considering a trip to Jordan and Israel next year. My question concerns crossing this border into Eilat. How do you get from the border to a chosen hotel in Eilat? Are there taxis or minibusses at the border?

You should have no trouble getting a taxi once you have crossed the border.

Taxis are just waiting there to pick up passengers. It is a very short ride to most Eilat hotels.

Another question-If we spend a few days in Jordan and then cross this southern border into Israel, can we get our Israeli visa at the crossing. We would like to fly into Amman, and out of Tel Aviv. Does this present problems when visiting either country?

Israel and Jordan have a signed peace treaty and diplomatic relations. There is no problem crossing the border and visiting either country.

Israel issues tourist visas at all border crossings to those tourists from countries that do not need to get their visa in advance.

If you are visiting Israel from one of the countries for which Israel does not require that you pre-arrange a visa - you will be granted a 3 month tourist visa - at any border crossing.
