Credit Cards, Travelers Checks at Safari Lodges in Tanzania
I asked Roy Safaris to check which lodges accepted Credit Cards or Travelers Checks, and I got a reply. I thought others might be interested.

Exclusive mobile camp: They do not accept Travellers cheques nor Credit cards, they accept cash Dollars, Euros.....

Kirawira Luxury tented Lodge + Ngorongoro Serena Lodge : They accept Visa & Amex Credit cards , no surcharge

Gibbs Farm : They accept Visa & MasterCard Credit cards (25% surcharge during the Festive season - Christmas to New Years)

Tarangire River Camp:They do not accept Credit cards nor Travellers cheques.

"25% surcharge during the Festive season - Christmas to New Years"

I hope that refers to room rates not credit card usage :-O

Thanks, lifelist.

Patty, when you were in TZ for your riding trip, did you use the bank in Arusha for obtaining shillingi? I think last time I used a combo of USD, TCs and local currency that I must have gotten by exchanging TCs at the Impala. Since we won't have the luxury of an in-hotel exchange, I'll probably get $ in Arusha. Hmm...

I didn't exchange any money since we were only doing the riding safari. I asked our hosts if it was OK to leave a pooled staff tip in USD and they said it was fine. Other than that, there was nothing to pay for or buy. I did see an exchange bureau at JRO but I'm not sure how the rates compare to Arusha.

Thank you lifelist for sharing. Great information. Do hope the Gibbs info is for rooms as well. 25% on CC charges is too high and not sure how Holiday time would affect it.

Leely when we were last there we changed some US$ into Shillings at JRO airport. This turned out to be one of the best exchange rates we saw.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks.
