Crazy to go to Egypt in September?
 

Are we crazy to consider a trip to Egypt and Jordan in late September/early October? We would love to combine this trip with one to Tanzania and Kenya but hate to have to suffer with the heat in Egypt. Is it starting to cool down by then?

I've traveled to Egypt in June and you just have to start your touring early(esp. in Luxor) and then take a mid-day break at the pool and head out later in the day for more sightseeing. As for Jordan, i am headed there also this Sept. and I don't think the heat will be too bad other than middle of the day, from what I've heard and read.

If you're considered crazy, then I must be too as I am going to Egypt and Jordon Early September to early October!!

I come from Australia, and my summers were normally 35 to 40 C (100F)... I am used to it. It seems it will be b****y hot in some parts of Egypt, but then so be it... I just didnt want to wait any longer for my trip... I wanted to go as soon as it got slightly cooler.. even if only a few degrees.

We will be doing Jordan & Egypt from 19th Sept - 4th Oct.

Yes - it will be ridiculously hot. But the mornings and evenings will be lovely. Don't forget a good hat, sunscreen, and drink plenty of water!

So September through early October is still Egyptian's Summer? I thinking about hitting Jordan in the late Sept/early October timeframe and then swinging back to Cairo for a few days afterward.

Yes, it is still quite hot in Sept and into Oct, altho obviously not at bad as June - August. It is quite do-able during that time, but you just have to be prepared for it.

Think again! We figured prices would be cheaper in August because of the heat, but no way -- it's still vacation season, and prices were as high as any high season.

The HOT summer months are still HIGH SEASON because it is still LOADS cooler than Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the other Gulf states. These people holiday in Egpyt during those months and they have the money to spend on HIGH END hotels, so while you are considering these undesirable months to be here, the Gulf Arabs will be here by the thousands enjoying cooler temps, booze, and gambling. :)

Only for a few days though. Hoping for a cold snap. Maybe a snow shower. :)

long2travel, I think the best you can hope for is a tall cool drink and lots of ice cubes! We survived, you will too :-)

I'm told not to drink put ice cubes in my drinks. :(

Actually, we're aiming for an early start at the pyramids and inside the museum by the heat of the day. Even if there's no AC in the museum at least it will be out of the sun.

You can wash the floor with your sweat :-) (the good news is the Tut exhibit in the museum IS air-conditioned)

Actually, I thought the Tut exhibit was in NY right now. Funny part is I live in NY but I'm going to Cairo. Something isn't right there.

I'm not sure -- it IS traveling (was in San Francisco, too), but I'm not sure if that's EVERYTHING or just some pieces.

There are a lot of pieces, some quite big, in the Tut section of the Egtyptian museum, so I'm pretty sure only a few key pieces are making their travel across the world. I would be disappointed if I go the to Egyptian museum and don't get to see the main gold Tut head mask that is often photographed in magazines. It's gorgeous.

Actually I think you're right, only a few pieces travel and the rest stay in Cairo. I just thought it humorous that it would be here while was there. Either way, even if the Tut exhibit has nothing but an empty display stand, I'm there for the air conditioning. :)

You won't even notice what is on the road now at the Tut Exhibit. They maybe have 5 bracelets normally on display, and now there are 2 on the road and 3 on display with photos of the other two, saying they are sorry they are on the road.

This time they kept the Mask here, but if any one here remembers when the Tut Exhibit traveled to the states in the 80's (I think) they took the Mask with them. That would FRY me big time if I came all the way to Egypt and the Mask was in my home town instead!

Good idea to go for the AC. The Royal Mummy Rooms are AC'd too.
