Cooking classes in Cairo

I would like to take a cooking class in Cairo. Does anyone know if there are any?

TwoRoads Nov 2nd, 2010 01:54 PM

I was in Egypt from Oct 7 to Oct 21 and took a cooking class offered by Casual Cairo Detours. The class was informal in the home of a native Egyptian homemaker. We were able to customize the Egyptian menu to suit our tastes and prepared the meal, which we then took on a sunset felucca ride on the Nile. The contact and owner of Casual Cairo Detours is Debbie Senters at [email protected]

OK - which one of you is with the group of 20 that wanted a cooking class? Not possible to handle a school room full of students for my teachers - if you want to do classes in small groups, we can work with you.

Not me Casual_Cairo. Only two of us. :)

Happy to hear from you then BabsB! :) The phone call from some agency wanting to sort out 20+/- students was a bit of a shock. :O

We just got back from Cairo and took a class at The House of Cooking. Amazing experience! There were two of us, and we learned some traditional Egyptian dishes (you have a choice of two menus). The school is run by a woman and her daughter and they are very friendly and really work with the students. It was a great experience.

I looked on the House of Cooking website and noted that a cooking class cost 350LE - what is the conversion in USD?

<<I looked on the House of Cooking website and noted that a cooking class cost 350LE - what is the conversion in USD?>>

That's about $60 USD.

Terrific. Thanks for the note and the web-site. I will definitely check it out.

WOW - VERY inexpensive for a class and a meal. You would certainly pay that for a good meal most anywhere.

I guess the clarification that needs to be made, is - is that per person or for a group to share?

Casual Cairo - your group of 20 is probably a wedding party wanting someone to do all the cooking for them lol.

Buy them a bargain bucket and say its the New Egyptian Style :-)
