Converting to Black and White

For those of us without the time or "skill" to convert photos to Black and White here is a link to a plug in which takes all of the hard work out of it.

http://www.niksoftware.com/silverefexpro/en/entry.php

I do not work for nor do I have any association with Nik Software

AFAIK Nik plugins are payable. I could be wrong. I know they were in the past.

Anyway, there's free alternatives out there. For those too lazy to google around; here's a package of actions I use 99% of the time:

http://www.pixelpower.be/temp/JohnysBWPackageV2.0.zip

It does BW, Sepia and all kinds of color tones with the ease of a mouse click. Just fiddle around with switching on and off the layers it creates.

Installing; put the unzipped atn file somewhere safe in your PhotoShop folder, and then drag & drop it in a running PS session.

By the way; you'd be surprised at how many of the pro wedding shooters on FredMiranda use this plugin. Wink wink nudge nudge.

Ciao,

J.

i have tried about every plugin imaginable without success for black and white images, and last week i tried the Nik Silver Efex plugin and loved it. i didn't love the price, however.

Thom Hogan, The Nikon Man, has been trying the Silver Efex plugin and getting beautiful results. http://www.bythom.com/
Same program/plugin I think referenced by sniktawk and jgardner above.

It should be good I have just looked up the price! Not for hobbyists unless you are really keen on Balck & White.
