Conservation news from Africa

To All Africa and Wildlife Lovers:

Dr. Daphne Sheldrick has just posted her 2004 newsletter which is a MUST READ for all of us who love Africa. Though she is located in Kenya, much of what she expresses concerns all of Africa's wildlife. Please put

http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.or...rsion%20aa.pdf

in your address window to access it. If the above doesn't work go to: (sheldrickwildlifetrust.org; click on orphans projects; click on newsletters).
Click on 2004 (or read other years also).

Explanations are given about poaching, snaring, bushmeat trade, CITES decisions and things that all of us as tourists should be aware of so that we can exert pressure on anyone who will listen to us in Africa to help.

Of course, there are also many stories about the orphans in Nairobi, Voi and Ithumba; stories of some of the babies being bitten by a rabid dog and having to be treated for rabies; stories from the desnaring teams and telling of some of the animals the veterinarian has rescued this year.

Though it is a long document (24 pages) it is well worth us all learning about this. Dr. Sheldrick probably has more wildlife conservation experience than anyone else in the world as she has been dealing with it for over 50 years. We can all learn from her.
