Comment on our Tanzania itinerary

This is for December.

Day 1: arrive into arusha at 9pm
Day 2: leave for Tarangire around 10am, Tarangire game drive, overnight Tarangire Safari Lodge
Day 3: Early morning game drive in Tarangire, leave for Lake Manyara around 10am. Afternoon game drive and night game drive. Overnight at Plantation lodge
Day 4: Early morning into Ngorongoro, spend most of the day either inside the crater or on the rim. Overnight Plantation lodge
Day 5: Head to Serengeti, overnight Sayari South
Day 6: game drives, overnight Sayari South
Day 7, 8, 9: game drives, overnight olakira
Day 10: fly out from Serengeti.

We are a little rushed during the first three days, since we heard on this forum that Tarangire/Manyara may not be great options in December.

Any comments on the pace of this safari or the choice of lodges/camps? Any changes you want to recommend?

At Tarangire, the Tarangire Safari Lodge which is actually a tent camp and a few stone bandas for families: Compared to the other properties, quite a step down. Though a favorite camp because of the lovely view, be aware that the tents are very small and set right next to one another. Your neighbor sneezes and you reply!

Maybe consider Tarangire River Camp, located outside the park entry (3/km or 2/mi) with drive across a branch of the River. Set on a hill, good view (different than Safari Lodge), with nicer tents, widely spaced for privacy, new public space area.

Otherwise, since only 1/nt at Tarangire, Safari Lodge can work for you.

Mush, I'd consider Tarangire to be "good" in December, not "excellent" as at other times of the year. Manyara should be great in December.

On Day 4 you might want to consider staying at one of the Crater rim lodges rather than backtracking to Plantation Lodge for a second night there.

"...spend most of the day either inside the crater or on the rim."

What is the attraction at the rim of the Crater? Hiking?

I think your choices for Sayari South and Olakira are great. Raelond is just posting a report on her stay at Olakira and Suyan (also an Asilia camp). You might want to read her report:

Sorry, mush...that link didn't get to Raelond's report, but if you do a search for her name, you'll get to it.

Calo,
thanks, I found the post you are referring to.

On day 4, yes the rim part would be an afternoon hike.
