Coming soon to South America Forum-Adventures of a White Rumped Monjita

It's a bird.

I've been back from the Pantanal (South) for about a week now and will be getting something together on that fantastic Anteater abundant trip.

I'll include a link over here.

Excellent, welcome back, can't wait to hear more

thit_cho Jul 14th, 2009 07:34 AM

Looking forward to that report -- now that DL has increased the number of destinations in Brazil that they service, I have been toying with some trips (which really just means reading the Lonely Planet Brazil).

Gritty Jul 14th, 2009 07:56 AM

atravelynn, I was thinking about a trip to the Pantanal this year, traveling in August, but things didn't work out. Maybe next year (or 2011--another Africa trip might be in order in 2010).

Looking forward to your report.

Welcome back! Looking forward to hearing about the Pantanal -- it is another destination I aspire to follow you to ...

Welcome back, Lynn! Looking forward to hearing about your latest trip and what you thought of north vs south.

atravelynn Jul 14th, 2009 09:00 AM

Thanks for the nice comments.

Chris GA, this means you are back from South Africa. Did you share your experiences yet? Did I miss them?

I have been typing as fast as a White-Rumped Monjita is capable to get some of those adventures and sightings in order for posting.

MyDogKyle Jul 14th, 2009 09:16 AM

Awesome! Welcome home, and I look forward to reading your report.

Chris_GA_Atl Jul 14th, 2009 11:47 AM

Lynn, I am just back from my trip a couple of days ago. I am processing the pictures and will post them and some comments then, so you didn't miss anything. It will probably be about 3 weeks before I post anything, we have 223 GB of pictures that I have to look at to discover whether any of them is any good ...
I will say that the shark diving was very substantially hampered by weather and that the Tanzania part of the trip was excellent and action-packed, especially in the Western Corridor, where the big migration herds were.

Lynn, welcome home! I can't wait to read about your trip to the southern pantanal. We leave for the northern pantanal and Atlantic rainforest on August 29, and hope to see even a fraction of the number of jaguars you saw on your previous trip.

Looking forward to the report/photos, and link it here please.

Lynn,

Welocme back! I've been waiting for your report and am particularly keen to hear the 'compare and contrast' between the Northern and Southern Pantanal.

Anteater abundant sounds fantastic.

Cheers,

Pol

You have a horde of followers (which I mean in the most literal sense) eagerly awaiting your report, and I count myself among them. Welcome home!

scruffypuma Jul 14th, 2009 08:24 PM

Lynn: Welcome home. I wondered where you had been. Can't wait to see and hear about the abundant anteaters!

Lynn--I'm eagerly looking forward to your photos so I can learn to recognize something in the Pantanal (besides Bruce) before we head out there in three weeks.

atravelynn Jul 15th, 2009 07:38 PM

Thanks a lot everybody. Spotting Bruce is a good place to start! I had some great Ovenbird viewing with a Rufous Hornero in its nest.

Now I've added photos in <red>red</red> to the above link.

Here they are as well:

Photos

Refúgio Ecológico Caiman –stay of 1 week - 125 photos
If taken on a drive, boat, or walk, that is stated
If taken while on the property of one of the lodges: Baiazinha, Cordilheira, Main; or at Sao Domingo, the corral, or community center, that is stated
http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLan...localeid=en_US

Refúgio da Ilha—stay of 3 nights – 75 photos
If taken on a drive, boat, or walk, that is stated
If taken on the Ilha property, it just says refugio
If taken at Fazenda San Francisco, where I went one evening for a night drive, it says San Francisco
http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLan...localeid=en_US

The number of photo ops presented without ever leaving the accommodations is impressive. If I had skipped an activity and hung out at the lodges during the prime animal activity hours of early morn and late afternoon, there’d probably be even more photos at right the lodge/ranch.

Vehicle used and all Accommodations – 32 photos
All are labeled, but are in no particular order

Lynn, your photos are terrific. I was in LA on business this weekend and even though I had to pay to access the Internet, I ran up a $10 bill looking at your photos.

atravelynn Jul 21st, 2009 05:17 AM

Thanks Thit cho. It is not often I get a quantified compliment.
