Closure of locks on the Nile

I read somewhere that the locks on the Nile close for a few days each April. If the locks do close, does anyone know how the cruise ships modify their itineraries? Thanks

When we went with GCT in 2005 I believe that the locks were closed in early June. So we stopped and docked just below the locks and were then transported by bus to the sites above the locks and returned to the docked ship at night.

So, I guess that means it could be one of two scenarios. First of all, where exactly are the locks? Between Aswan and Luxor, but where exactly?

doctorjohn, were you actually transfered and if so, how disruptive was it? When did that take place - morning, afternoon, evening? Was it terribly disruptive?

120aks, when you docked where were you exactly? What sites did you visit nearby? Were you close enough to a town to go into it on your own?

I guess I sound confused about the location of the locks - I am. Since I'm going to Egypt at a time when they might be closed, if I can tweek my timeframe a bit, I might be able to avoid the whole thing altogether - if it's worth the effort.

Thanks for your help.

I was just informed that a new lock has been built so there will be no interruption. Great news.
