City of David

Has anyone done this? Do you really have to wade in knee deep water-it is not for me. Advise please. Thank you

sorry, are you referring to Hezekiah's Tunnel?
Yes, knee deep in cold water for most of the time.
Rubber pool shoes essential for sure-footedness, as the bottom is ancient and uneven. You also need a flashlight, since it is pitch dark. Will I ever do it again?
Probably not. Am I glad I did it once? Thrilled!

You do not have to go through that part and can enjoy the rest of the site without doing it. One of the funniest things I ever saw though was there. An entire army group of young men were touring the site. Before they went down into the tunnel they took off their uniforms in front of everyone down to their underwear and put on civilian shorts and tops to they could wade without getting the uniforms wet. That's how I learned that the army might provide the uniforms but the soldiers provide their own underwear. Quite a variety to be seen!

You must be talking about Hezekiah's tunnel. I was just there in May and the water was only mid-calf deep almost the entire way. At one short stretch it was to my thighs. It was cold when we first stepped in but was actually very refreshing and crystal clear. I wore flip-flops without a problem. Kind of fun and I'd do it again!
