Cingular service in Egypt?

Has anyone used Cingular world service in Egypt with success? I have a Samsung GSM phone, but it's locked to Cingular. I don't think I have time to get it unlocked before we leave, but I can add the global service for $3.99/month. I won't use it much so the cost per call is OK. Thanks in advice for any insights.

Thank you – that's all I needed to hear!

Just be sure your GSM phone has the frequency required for use in Egypt. If it's a quad band phone it'll be fine.

I bought an Egyptian tourist SIM, worked great and I had a local Egyptian number so my guide could call me. Otherwise, it's an international call for them. But they could sms to get around that expense and you could return their call.

I still had my Egyptian SIM in my phone when we landed at JFK, and it roamed on the Cingular service.

mowmow is absolutely right. It depends entirely on what kind of phone you have and not who is the service provider. I know this because I am currently in the process of shopping for a new cell phone to use overseas. Some tri-band phones will work, but quad-band is best.

I do have a quad-band, and I chose it for just this reason.
Thanks all!
