cheetah cub pics
More Ndutu cheetah cub pics from our Tanzania trip in late February - early March ... if you were there in early March you probably saw these, if you were there a week or two earlier you likely missed them because they were still in the nest.

Bill,
A unique sighting and some excellent photos. I've been many times on safari and never seen cheetah cubs. Best regards, Johan |
Truly marvelous photos yet again, you are either extremely lucky or damn clever (I go for the latter).
You should send them to BBC Wildlife Magazine, they are far better than this months feature of leopard cubs. Also where was everybody else, a hunt with no other vehicles in the way amazing but true. |
Super series of photos.
What else do you do with photos like these to share them with the rest of the world? Only on the internet? regards - tom |
Bill and Carolyn,
Your pictures are extraordinary. Clear as can be, with face shots done well enough to catch the emotion. Some of our best cheetah sightings were in that same area at the end of Feb. as well. We got a few cub pics. but nothing like yours. Thanks for posting. |
STUNNING!!!!!!!!
I just kept gasping as I scrolled down through your photos! I cannot even imagine getting to witness that in person! Cheetahs are my favorite (so far as we've yet to go to Africa...we leave September 23 for Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda!) Truly gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! :)>- Lisa www.luv2globetrot.com |
Bill,
wonderful pictures!! They are so cute and look so attentive while the mother teaches them how to deal with the prey. How lucky you were to have this extrodinary sighting. Thanks for sharing. Going through that pictures makes me even more impatient for our trip in august... steff |
Beautiful animals and fabulous photos...

Wow, _wow_, WOW!!
Thanks for this treat for all of us :) -Judith |
What a super set of pictures, Bill, I am totally envious of the sightings you had, and you really made the most of them. Thanks for sharing these.

Incredibly beautiful photos. The cubs are so cute.
Thanks for including the information on cheetahs. If this is the same group I heard about when I arrived second week of March, there are now only two cubs. Circumstantial evidence points to a lion having killed one of them. |
Beautiful images...
What an amazing experience you must have had observing this handsome family. |
Outstanding, what a find. Excellent photos.
|
Wow...absolutely incredible.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful gift. Deb |
OMG!!!!!!
Absolutely incredible pictures. My favorite without hesitation is the one where the cubs seem to be looking up to mom for instructions on what to do next. Absolutely precious. Bill and Carolyn, You must be winning prizes with these photos? Fantastic, thanks for posting, Kristina |
Those cubs are shmudgy wudgy and adorable, unreal. My fave, though, is of mom with bloody face, looking up so angular.
|
Thanks for sharing your great photos. Wonderful lighting and bokeh not to mention the "cute factor".

Hi Bill,
It certainly was a treat to see these pictures first thing in the morning ..... thanks a lot!!! Loved the pic of the 3 cubs looking up at Mom with the kill next to them! Thanks again Hari |
Hi Bill and Carolyn,
I really enjoyed all of your latest pictures. It is like being there all over again, only better. Davgai |

All 10's! Totally adorable. <):) |
I'm chirping while looking at these. Great stuff again and a really nice article... I really like your photography etiquette tips.
|
Absolutely beautiful!
We were in Ndutu in early Feb and didn't see a single cheetah there!! Just bad luck I guess! All of your photos are incredible. Congratulations! |

¡¡¡¡BRAVO!!!
Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful images, you know how much most people enjoy them in this forum, fantastic. Paco. |
Absolutely fantastic shots - best I have ever seen of cheetah cubs.
Phil |
These are fantastic. They are all wonderful. My favorite is also the photo with the cubs looking up at mom, trying to figure out what to do with the impala.
Can I go with you on your next safari? Obviously yours and Carolyn's skill comes through (again) in your photos, but you were also awfully lucky given the age of those cheetah cubs. |
Bill-
These are just so totally stunning! Please pass along to Carolyn as well. The photo with the solo cub by the tree and the photo with the cubs looking up to Mom for guidance are just too precious! Wonderful photography along with wonderful luck with your sightings! |
Audible gasp as your first picture came up. These are absolutely stunning. We were there, and saw these three at the same time, but didn't seem to get good enough pictures because I was at the end of my zoom length (X12 optical on my little digital!)
Just love the one where they seem to be asking mum what to do. I agree with everyone else - thanks for sharing. |
Your pictures are stunning. We were there mid March but didn't see these wonderful animals. We did see a lioness with her four cubs who were about 3 weeks old.
|
Thanks for all the kind words! We were indeed lucky to find this family (the first day we found them everyone else was chasing the mom with six cubs so we had them to ourselves all afternoon) :)
I just put up a page with a dozen or so shots of this same mother attacking a honey badger that she felt was a threat to the cubs. In all the reading I've done on the Serengeti and cheetahs I don't recall ever hearing a researcher like Schaller or Caro or Packer, or a ranger like Myles Turner mention seeing a fight between a cheetah and a ratel, so once again we were blessed. On Friday I'll post a dozen or so pics of the mom with six small cubs. Here is the link to the honey badger fight: http://www.hiltonphotography.net/afr...z/hb-fight.htm Bill & Carolyn |
Again Bill, amazing shots; how do you get so lucky? I've been on maybe 20 safaris and only once did I see a honeybagder; she had a baby, so I was thrilled, but it was at night and a bit too far for pictures. That was in Zambia.
I appreciate your recommendations in reading. I'm halfway done with George Schaller's the Serengeti lion study and Myles Turner's memoirs arrived yesterday. Thanks again for sharing, Kristina |
Thanks for uploading the other badger photos. What an amazing sequence!
|
Bill, those are criminally cute cubs and the photos are incredible. After seeing the honey badger fight I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d show us a photo of a melanistic leopard.
|
The cheetah cub pics are just wonderful. My favorite one is of the cub peeking around the tree trunk.
The pics of the fight is amazing. Thanks for sharing. Linda |
Bill, safarimama references your reading recommendations. Would you mind re-posting? I need an Africa fix! Thanks.
|
Thanks for the pic's.
They are wonderful. Hope that one day i could take some that are half as good. Thanks also for the advice re lodges/camps. Baloubear. |
Superb pics!!! Especally the cubs looking up!!!!
