CCAfrica Safaris

Has anyone booked a safari with Conservation Corporation Africa? They are very expensive, though the lodges and tent camps do look beautiful. I'm wondering if they are well organized, security conscious and worth the high dollar rates.

This will not answer your question in its entirety (if at all). I have stayed at Londolozi, a CC resort in Sabi Sand reserve.I agree with you.It is very expensive and I don't think I would have gone if I wasn't getting a "deal".
However, it was fabulous and everything is laid on and well organised. Accommodation is luxurious.Attention to detail is meticulous. My kids lost a small toy in our private plunge pool and I mentioned it to the staff as I did not want it to jam the filter. They rescued it and placed it in a prominent position for us.

Security is not a problem at all. I am not sure whether you are referring to personal security but in the game reserves, you have more to worry about from the animals than people. They escort you to your room at night so that you are not attacked by the wildlife and you are warned not to stray too far.

I am also not sure if you are booking your entire trip through them but there are cheaper options. We book our flights through a travel agency specialising in South Africa, so they get a discount which is passed on to the traveler. There are a number of them in the States. Generally, I find that if you do the individual components of your trip yourself, it can be cheaper.
It also depends on the time of year that you go. Some lodges offer discounted rates in the South African winter.
You may e-mail me if you want specific information.

Thanks Lisa for the comments. The safety issue I was referring to was indeed regarding the wildlife. It seems fairly dangerous to just have the fabric of a tent between a sleeping person and all that wildlife.

Kim, I can't comment on the tent situation as we have only stayed in lodges with 4 walls.I'm not much of a tent person even if they are sultans's accommodations. However, the tents look pretty sturdy and substantial in pictures and apparently have all the luxuries. I can't see the CC corporation doing anything that was less than satisfactory or unsafe as they are very high-end and have an outstanding reputation.
The only way you may run into trouble is if you disregard their instructions about wandering off too far or walking around at night on your own. None of the camps are fenced so you may easily find a lion or elephant or buffalo walking through the camp in the wee hours. For my part, I 'm always walking on the heels of our guide on walks so that I don't get too far away.

Which month are you planning to go?
