Cater Rim Walking Tour?

We're going to have 2 days at the Crater on our upcoming Tanzania trip. Wondering if one half day of going into the crater is sufficient, or if we should do two half days. The other free half day we'd do something at Gibbs Farm.... they list a variety of potential activities on their web site. Any comments from those who've been to this lodge? The crater rim walk is listed at 6-7 hrs, so obviously would take a whole day. For those who've done this, what would we expect to see? What's the approximate cost? Worth doing? Thanks all :-)

Crater Rim walk is only half-day... maybe 3/hrs.

If you're staying at Gibb's Farm and plan a 2nd crater tour, you'll have to pay for this $100/person (or $200 for the vehicle divided by the # in your group) and another NCA entry fee per person. Why is you wish a 2nd crater visit you stay the night on the crater rim at one of the lodges or camps to avoid the addtl NCA fee.

If at Gibb's, they offer a Highlands Trek and a visit to Elephant Caves, both of which are very inexpensive. Or there are nearby schools or orphanages to visit, which your guide can coordinate. But the property is so lovely, you may wish to just "chill" - read a book, walk the gardens, have a massage. And, do enjoy their meals.

Woops! I made a mistake in reading our itinerary.... we do have 2 days at Gibbs Farm, but we will be staying at Lemala Camp when we visit the crater. It's the farm to crater rim walk that is listed as 6-7 hrs leaving from Gibbs. Looks like many fun things to do at Gibbs, so still interested in hearing what people liked best at that locale. :-)

Well, if it's a walk between Gibb's (in town of Karatu) and the Crater... yup, a full-day!

It was a good activity. Lovely views. We ran into some Maasai, which was nice. A nice opportunity to stretch your legs, which is not always possible on a traditional safari. Something I wouldn't do again, but fun once.
