I enjoyed reading your TR. I'm planning to take ferry from Dahab to Aqaba...but now, I'm having second thoughts based on your report..

Hi tates, the ferry wasn't the best part of the trip but I don't know a better way to get to Aqaba. Travel by land might be tricky since you have to go through Israel. I think it would be wise to post a seperate thread to ask if there are alternatives. If you do decide on the ferry just plan it as an all day event.
