Car Rental in Cape Town

The hubby and I will be renting a car for 4 or 5 days while in Cape Town, Winelands, Hermanus, etc. Any suggestions on a car rental company? And do we need an international driver's license or will an American one be sufficient?

I've just checked on this with AutoEurope and you do not need an international driver's license. I got a fairly good rate with AutoEurope and am also looking into valuecarhire.co.za, which Selwyn had recommended

My girlfriend who spends 1/2 the year in SA uses Buzz car rental-I suppose you could check them all out & see who gives the best rates

Hi Twoinluv,

I agree with what KT says. In my opinion Value Var Hire are the best value in town as long as you dont have to drop off the vehicle outside Cape Town. You do NOT need an international drivers license as your home drivers license will suffice.

Enjoy your stay in our great city.

Thank you everyone for your responses. We have completed most of the planning and booking for our trip and car rental is one of the last things we need to take care of. Our agent quoted us a compact to mid-size car at $45 per day, but I thought that seemed high. So I will check out your various suggestions.

Thanks again,
Jenny
