Car Rental

I am going in agroup of 5 adults, one baby and was wondering if it makes sense to hire a car for the 6 days we will be in Mauritius. We are staying at the Oberoi and hope to see some sights and eat at some local restaurants. What is teh ebst way to travel around - rent a car or order taxis each time we want to go somewhere?
Thanks all!

Hello there, my husband and I have just moved to Mauritius and we have found that it actually works out cheaper to hire a car than to use taxis if you use one of the local companies - they are everywhere and much cheaper than the big international car rental companies. You can pick up a modern vehicle for about around 800 Rupees (or less) per day. The Mauritians are a little 'crazy' on the roads so it depends how confident your drivers are but the roads are very good and it easy to find your way around.

Have fun, Mauritius is delicious!

Thanks. We did hire a car and it came in handy. Only on our South island trip did we hire a taxi and it was very reasonable.
