Capetown Family Accomodation
 

Hi there,

My husband and I, our infant , and parents will be travelling to South Africa this Dec/Jan. We need a booking for 4 nights in Capetown Dec 28-Jan 1st. We are open to either a suite type of situation or two seperate rooms. I am finding that many things are booked up (we recently planned this trip) or many places do not accept children. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. We are on a moderate budget. Thank you, Jennifer

If you provde a bit more information, you can help us help you -- what sort of accommodation (luxury hotel, boutique hotel, B&B) are you looking for? What is your budget? Does anyone have any special requirements, e.g. mobility restrictions?

Where are you looking to stay -- in the city centre, or further afield? Will you be hiring a car? If you are hiring a car, that opens up your options a lot -- if not, you probably want something more central.

If you're interested in a small boutique hotel, guesthouse, or B&B, try the Portfolio Collection on www.portfoliocollection.com -- they have a very large selection, and the properties are of a very high standard (I did a one-month trip to SA using only Portfolio properties for the non-safari portion of my trip, and was never disappointed).

Another option, particularly if you are looking to save a bit of money, is to book a small self-catering cottage or apartment. There are some lovely renovated cottages in the De Waterkant area, close to the waterfront.

I will take a look at that web site. We will have a car. We are open to location suggestions within or around Capetown. We'd prefer an area that wasn't too laden with tourists/noise but don't want to be too far off the map to drive to restaurants and such. We will be doing at least one day trip to the Winelands and otherwise doing day outings around Capetown. We dont have a specific budget laid out especially with these high season rates. So anything mid to high-ish, either hotel or B&B would be okay due to our situation with the baby. Sorry to be so vague, but Im feeling a bit desperate as many of the places I have inquired about our booked up already. Do you have any specific places you have liked within the Portfolio Collection? Hi Jenn,

I really enjoyed my stay at An African Villa in Tamboerskloof -- it's in a nice residential neighbourhood but still within walking distance of lots of nice restaurants. It's a good location for touring, particularly if you have a car -- about half way between the waterfront and Table Mountain. It was a nice blend of B&B and self-catering -- there was access to the fridge and kitchen if you wanted it, but breakfast was provided.

The owners are very helpful in terms of suggestions for places to see and things to do. They also own another property, Liberty Lodge, which gets really good reviews. I'm not sure what their policy is on children.

One benefit of a self-catering place is that there probably wouldn't be any restrictions on children. I've seen some very nice places on www.dewaterkant.com and www.dewaterkant.co.za -- this area is quite near to the Waterfront, which may not be as convenient for you.

Since you have a car, the Constantia and Claremont areas are also an option. There are a number of very nice places in this area, and you would be close to the oldest vineyards on the Cape. There are a number of renowned restaurants in this area.

I also stayed in some wonderful places in the Winelands, but it sounds like you won't be staying overnight in that area.

In terms of self catering at good prices may I suggest that you look at

This apartment is well located relevant to the city and previous visitors of mine have use it with great success. It is very well priced however I must be honest I dont know what their children policy is. Somehow I dont think this will be a problem.


You could also go look at the Village and Life site as they always have great self catering apartments. These apartments are well located in Cape Town, Camps Bay or the Waterfront however the latter area is quite expensive. To see more please go take a look at http://www.villageandlife.com/

Great venue. Very well appointed. Wonderfully friendly staff and hosts. In upper part of Cape Town meaning that you will need a car to get around or otherwise you could quite comfortably use taxis.
