Cape Town South Africa- Hotel Help!
 

Hi! I am going to South Africa for the very first time alone in October and I wanted to find a reasonable lovely place to stay that is safe...maybe close to things I can walk to in town and has a free breakfast to save some money and a pool.


Any suggestions of names? How are Bed & Breakfasts or guest houses versus hotels?? Help would be GREATLY appreciated! My budget is under $200 a night....preferably closer to $100 or less.

Some great areas to stay in Cape Town are De Waterkant , BoKaap and Kloof Street. There are plenty of independent B&B s too that are pretty. Go to Booking.com .You'll be spoilt for choice.

I've stayed in Sea Point and Green Point and these are also great areas but slightly outside of the centre. They are "safe" areas to walk around during the day, as much as anything in CPT can be deemed as safe. B&Bs are great in South Africa. If you can find a reasonable hotel in the Victoria and Albert Waterfront (eg City Lodge V&A), this is also a great area and you can walk around at night there too. I have also stayed in Long Street which was great and there are some small hotels in the area you could stay and the Holiday Inn Express.

I would look at the Air BnBs in Cape Town. They have been struggling since the drought a year back, so you can often find some great deals.

With regards to areas, I would stick to the Atlantic Seaboard and any areas directly surrounding the city center. These areas are relatively safe and will have trendy shops, delis, and restaurants nearby. Furthermore, they will be no more than a 15-minute drive from both Table mountain and many beaches.

Here are 2 more options, recommended to us by our tour operator (more of a B and B concept). We will be there in September. They are: Bergzicht Guest House (stunning view of Table Mountain, can Uber up and down hill if too steep, swimming pool, full breakfast, and within your budget) and Braeside B and B (close to V and A waterfront). We thought both were very affordable and ended up booking with Braeside because it was convenient to shopping, restaurants, etc.

V&A Waterfront (it's actually Victoria & Alfred, not Victoria & Albert) is probably most central, if not the cheapest. Oranjezicht and Gardens are areas I'm familiar with, and safe too. Last April I stayed two weeks in an AirBnB in Camps Bay, and loved it there. Several nice restaurants and bars on Victoria Road which runs along the beach, and are safe to walk to even at night. You will need an Uber to get back into the main part of town, but Uber is very cheap in Cape Town, and we seldom had to wait more than a few minutes for one to arrive. There is a HoHo bus stop on Victoria Road. The main photo on the following website shows the bus approaching Camps Bay with Table Mountain on the right and Lions Head in the background:

Ah, just realized this is an OLD post. Not sure why Fodor's website considered it new. Original poster posted September 2018 and she was travelling October 2018. She's been and gone.

I didn't notice either. Oh well, perhaps someone else will benefit.

"Oh well, perhaps someone else will benefit." that would be me! In the early stages of planning our trip, I could the info here really useful. Off to booking.co and Airbnb to take a look.
