Cape Town private guide recommendations?

During our visit to Cape Town, we hope to spend a day touring the Cape Peninsula. High on the list are Cape Point, Boulders Beach for the penguins, and a good hike through some of the good scenery. Do you have a good guide who conducts private tours that you recommend? Thanks.

Hi tripplanner001 -

DH and I used Lesley of Amber Tours and would highly recommend her.

Also here's my review on TripAdvisor

We really enjoyed our time with her.

Thank you PatandHank. Appreciate the feedback.

I've used Charlie Ratcliffe, booked through Southern Destinations, for many days of guiding over two trips to CapeTown. Highly recommended.

Thanks Ekscrunchy. I booked my day trip with PG Tops based upon some of the information available online. I contacted a few others, but were either unavailable or I did not hear back. Appreciate the recommendation though.

Ok..good. You will be blown out of the water at the beauty of CapeTown. And the kindness of the residents!!

Make sure to book your restaurants ahead of time if you have specific places that you want to eat. I would be happy to answer any other questions from the perspective of a New York person who has spent (only) two weeks in the city.

I love SA, and will be there in a few months, this time to explore Johannesburg.

Thanks ekscrunchy. I am very much looking forward to our trip. I'm only starting to look at dining options now. Are there any in Cape Town you would recommend? We will be in Johannesburg for two days during this trip.

By the way, I'm a native New Yorker too. Living in DC now though.

Watching as we will be in Capetown in August.

I would appreciate some Cape Town restaurant suggestions! Could you also describe the type of food each has? Thanks

Make sure to book one dinner The Test Kitchen and another at
La Colombe. See my second trip report on South Africa here on this forum.

Good day and Howzit Cape Town-bound travelers,
Pardon me for adding my two bob's worth to this dining thread...
I wholly recommend Gardens-located Miller's Thumb for a divine evening dinner. Jane and Solly still personally manage the menu each night (closed Sunday), with Jane advising you on the nightly specials and Solly cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Down on our Cape Peninsula, call into the legendary Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay and/or enjoy the sweeping mountain and ocean views from Blue Water Cafe at Imhoff's Farm.
Cheers,
Darren Humphrys

Appreciate all the dining suggestions. We're making notes for our upcoming trip.

If you are still looking for a Cape Town guide, we had Zakkie Parker in 2013 for half a day and he was excellent and very reasonable compared to the competition. I recommended him to another group of travelers who fell in love with him. They used him for several days.

Here's his website if interested:

And here's one of the TA reviews on Zakkie posted by the person to whom I recommended him:
