Cape Town -- Ginja or Haiku
 

What a dilemma! There are too many great- sounding restaurants to choose from. Ginja and Haiku sound somewhat similar. In trying to narrow down which restaurants to go to during our 4 nights in Cape Town, I'm thinking of trying to go to one of these. The Showroom seems to be a definite. Then, I'm thinking of Africa Cafe and Bukara. Or Green Dolphin or 95 Keerom. Also, La Colombe for lunch and the Mount Nelson for Tea.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Another awesome restaurant is Paranga.
Africa cafe or Mama Africa are nice also. Bukara, isnt it in Stellenbosch? or do they hv multiple locations?

Paranga is very very good...it's located either camps bay or bantry bay...i can't remember.

When are you going to be in Cape Town? Which area generally?

The showroom is in a huge car showroom and in winter its freezing - our Cape winters are cold.

Paranga is in Camps Bay
Cape Town Fish market is excellent - thers's a good one at the waterfront and one in Camps Bay

Bukara is in Cape Town itself and is very good
La Colombe is excellent - do book though
There are excellent places in Franschoek - try the web site www.eatout.co.za - lot of us locals use it.

The new Antique/ Butterfly Bar at the top of the Heerengracht building in town is very trendy and has brilliant reveiws - try drinks ther and then on to Bukara perhaps

Thank you very much, Hari & Capetownfolk, for your very helpful comments. Paranga is a restaurant I have not read about here before. We will be in Capetown from October 24 until October 28. Will it be warm enough then? The Showroom was raved about on this forum a little while ago. I'm overwhelmed with the abundance of wonderful-sounding restaurants throughout South Africa. How to chose?
The idea of being able to go to 2 places in one evening is a real bonus so the Antique/Butterfly and Bukara sounds like an excellent deal.
BTW, what time do people typically eat dinner in restaurants in South Africa?

most people book a restaurant for 8pm, we go at 7pm if we take the children - and some restaurants want to make 2 sittings which is most annoying but usually more likely in Dec/Jan peak season

October is our windy month - think if the white table cloth ontable mountain - its the strong winds that put it there. Camps Bay will be very windy - Clifton, Bantry Bay and Fresnaye will be wind free so keep this in mind when you plan your days.

Dress in layers - we are all fairly casual here, jeans with layers of tops most days. Keep your beach shorts and beach gear for the beaches and not for walking round our city if you want to avoid the "of look there's a tourist" stares.

A great area for the younger crowd is Long Stret in Cape Town - lots of clubs and trendy restaurants, but be safe and leave your bags and cameras at your hotel
