Saturday market at The Biscuit Mill in Woodstock might qualify. Lots of food, as well as crafts, boutiquey shops, etc...

If you are up for it, get picnic supplies from Giovanni's and climb Lions Head, lots of locals doing that on the weekend. It was challenging but we were rewarded at the top with magnificent views all the way to Robben Island while a church group was singing, very mystical.

Sounds wonderful. Are there any farmers markets or "flea" markets. Gallery tours. local walks??

ekscrunchy Oct 28th, 2013 04:30 AM

Biscuit Mill on Saturdays might qualify as a farmer's/flea market, although the emphasis is on prepared food and crafts rather than fruits and vegetables fresh from the fields. Most shopping for fresh foods seems to take place at supermarkets, with Woolworths at the top of the quality/price heap with PIck and Pay a possible second.

I would love to learn of more traditional farmers markets in the area; I was not successfull at locating these on this last trip (we stayed at the marvelous Mt Nelson so did not have need for a kitchen in any case) but seems as if these markets must exist....good to know for next time..

Hout Bay used to have a flea market on Sunday mornings.
