Cape Agulhas, Elim, & Hermanus

I'd like to do a self-drive overnight trip (2 days, 1 night) from Cape Town that includes Cape Agulhas, Elim, and Hermanus. This would be in October.

Is this reasonable?

Where is the best place (town) to overnight?

Where else would you recommend we stop - or is there time to visit anywhere else on this itinerary?

Thanks!

Stanford is probably your best option, although Klein Paradijs just outside Pearly Beach may appeal as well.

Note that many of the roads around Elim are gravel, although they have been upgrading them to tar.

Thanks, Kurt.

Do you know if rental car companies allow the cars to be driven on grave roads?

I am not clear on how the insurance coverage varies - I hire cars and drive them on gravel roads all the time here and confess I don't really worry about it. I need the car and I need to go where I'm going.

You might want to look at the particulars of the contract, or get a supplemental insurance (I know Amex offers one, I'm sure there are others: https://www295.americanexpress.com/p...do?source=CCSG)

We stayed several days in Hermanus when we toured the Cape last year. We stayed at THE POTTING SHED in Hermanus but not at their B and B but one of their self catering condos they own which was fabulous! The Potting Shed gets great marks on Tripadvisor and the owners are wonderful. The area is great not only for whale sightings/beach combing and great eating but also the wineries in the area.

We just did that drive. Opted to stay in De Kelders instead of busy Hermanus. Stanford is inland so no water views. Lots of nice B&B's in DeKelders right on water, about 45 minutes from Hermanus. Cliff Lodge run by Gideon Shapiro is very nice plus he's long on information about what and how to do various touristy things. Very close to Shark Cage Diving operations and Dyer Island cruises in Gansbaai

dutyfree & boudecca,

Thanks for the info.

Which specific areas/towns/etc. did you visit? Which did you like best?
