Cancelling trip info
I've never had to cancel a trip in my life but our final payment is coming up on Sept. 1st for our late Oct. trip to Kenya/Rwanda and I still have a disc/nerve problem. I'm wondering what others have done in this situation-just postpone which I could do until Oct. 08 or simply refund and rebook later? It's SO incredibly disappointing although I'm still hoping for a miracle of some sort.

How very disappointing Moremiles.
I would discuss this with your agent. Postponing would likely rack up fewer fees or penalties than cancelling and rebooking. Once I postponed an Africa trip 13 months and even changed the country visited. What does your doctor think? Personally I wouldn't risk the investment and hope for a miracle recovery if that is what it would take. I'd look at postponing for one year and making sure I was fully recovered. |
Thanks for the thoughts. I do have comprehensive ins. coverage with Travelguard and am hoping the gorilla permits will not be completely lost. It really won't take a miracle, it's a "moderate" injury that I thought would be fairly resolved by now but I will not hesitate to cancel/re-schedule if there is any doubt. We actually don't get to Africa until Nov. 1st but there are those bumpy rides to consider.

I've never had to put in a claim with an insurer, but if you have to cancel consider
- did your disc/nerve problem occur before or after you took out the insurance? - if after, then you should be ok. - if before, this would be considered a pre-existing condition. - if pre-existing, did you purchase the insurance within the 7-21/days from when you made your initial deposit? Just a few items to be on guard should you have to cancel. |
Thanks Sandi, and yes,I purchased the all inclusive ins. within 7 days of booking the trip with the pre-existing clause. The injury occured however, two months after the booking.
