The town that was attached probably hasn't had a tourist ever place a foot on the ground there. Town is about 30/miles from the Somalia border, easy enough to get to by a leisurely walk by the terrorists. All to sad for those who live in the area.
Other than the earlier warning about Mombasa Is. itself and the slum areas of Nairobi, certainly not on the 'must visit' list of tourists the safari locations are safe, besides way to far from where the bad guys can escape, as hundreds of miles to Somalia.
Sadly the northern Kenyan coast is too close to the badlands. As two incidents about 1-2/yrs ago.

Some of the posters on these threads have very little idea of the geography of Kenya. On the other thread, a woman who had never been to Africa, and apparently had very little idea of the situation in Kenya, stated that she was in the throes of a panic attack due to lost luggage and would NeVER travel to a "war zone."

I'm still going to Kenya with my group in August and September. My first trip to Kenya (and Africa) was about a week after the US embassy was bombed. We had a wonderful safari, even with all the things happening in the country. It was a sad time because of the loss of life, but I never felt like I was in danger.
