Can you help with Oudtshoorn accommodation choices?

I'm choosing accommodation for 2 nights in Oudtshoorn and can't decide!

These are the choices and prices:

Outeniqua - 230 Rand per person including breakfast
http://members.africa-adventure.org/...iqua/index.htm
It's in town, has a pool
Higher price than some

Oakdene - 275 Rand per person including breakfast
http://www.oakdene.co.za/
http://www.portfoliocollection.com/go/Oakdene/
It's in town, has large rooms with bathtubs
Higher price than some

Shades - 250 Rand per person including breakfast
http://www.shades.co.za/index.htm
Recommended by Selwyn, in town, nice rooms, pool, big breakfast
Higher price than some

Thylitshia - 190 Rand per person including breakfast
http://www.thylitshia.co.za/index.htm

It's out of town and hosts large conference groups but it has a pool, includes tasting of wine and a tour of the farm, and is cheaper so better for our budget

Ouwerf - 200 Rand per person including breakfast
http://www.ouewerf.co.za/
It's out of town
But good for the budget

Hello Kavey,

I've never been to any of these places. If it helps you to narrow your choices, though, I would prefer the town properties . Reason: If you went into Oudtshoorn for dinner, you'd probably be driving back to your accommodation in the dark. Even if the farm accommodation is only, say, 12 km out of town, it still might not be that much fun trying to find your way along an unfamiliar country road in the dark.

If you really do want to go for one of the farm properties, I would recommend Thylitshia, because its website says it serves dinner. This would give you the option of staying there for dinner, if you felt like it, and not having to drive into town.

The places in town all look nice to me. It's quite possible that every one of them would meet your needs.

The place Selwyn recommended appeals to me for a reason that you may find very weird. Of the websites portraying the three town houses, that is the only one that has people in some of its photos. Small a hint as that may be, it suggests to me something about the ethos of the business. (Okay, I admit, if men are from Mars and women are from Venus, I must be from yet another planet.)

As I said, I've never been to ANY of these places, so please take my opinion for whatever you think it's worth.

Your comments interest me a lot because as I was narrowing I focused on Shades and Thylitshia - in the end I went for the latter because of price.

THANKS
