Can someone help with me with a question about tipping

Hi there,
I am wondering if anyone out in Fodorland can suggest how much I should tip my guide? I have 9 nights with a guide and I am always at a loss. I know, I know, I know it surely depends on how helpful, kind, knowledgeable, et cet, but I would appreciate some sense of what is a good tip. Is there some percentage I should be thinking about?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

When I travel I start out with $10/day/person. Then depending on service provided, add or subtract. And, of course, where visiting, so will always vary.

If you've booked thru a tour operator, I'd inquire from them what is usual/customary.

I support sandi on her 10US$pppd for the guide and half of it for the overall staff tipping box or if a chef/staff is travelling with you.

In addition to the cash we always schlepp a lot of presents with us for the local staff:
headlamps plus extra batteries
camping cutlery
knife in a pouch to attach to the belt
manicure sets for the ladies
t-shirts
pencils/pens/books in Engl./inflatable balloons, HARIBO gummi bears in tiny plastic bags (approx. 5 - 7 bears in each; available in Germany in 1 kg boxes; I have no idea whether they are available in your country) for the kids:-)

Happy Planning and safe trip!

spass - the OP's post is tagged for Morocco. Your post reads like it's intended for a safari. Would you give the same advice for Morocco? It certainly didn't occur to me to take any of that stuff there!
