Can anyone recommend a hotel in Damascus?

I stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Damasucs a year and a half ago, but it was very tired and shabby. Does anyone have a recommendation for an interesting/stylish/quirky hotel in the city?

You could try Le Meridian (request the renovated wing) or the Cham Palace hotel, but I wouldn?t expect miracles. Aleppo has old courtyard houses converted into nice little hotels (more like a boutique hotels), but I don?t think they exist in Damascus. The Four seasons is still under construction, till then, these hotels might be your only options

the guidebooks are pretty good on both these locations. Possibly the best value in Aleppo(Halab)is the tourist hotel. Very small and qutie cheap and amazingly clean. You should also consider at least a night at the Baron and experience a bit old world crumbling charm although last tme i was there it was being renovated - slowly.
