JazzDrew,
Does this mean that you are checking out camps and planning another Africa trip now that you are done caucusing? |
Atravelynn,
Why yes, I did participate in my first caucus Thursday, and yes, I am planning another safari! We had such a great experience in 2005 that I am talking with friends to join us for a return in 2009 or 2010. I have been lurking around here for a few months since our friends indicated an interest in joining us on another vacation (we were with them in Switzerland and Germany last summer). I like to be a trip ahead in preparation (next summmer is a cruise to Rome, Turkey, Cryprus, Greece (Athens, Mykokos, Rhodes), and to see the pyradmids in Egypt). So techanically it will be 3 trips to Africa in 4 years with a couple of trips to Hawaii and a nice visit in French Polynessia thrown in. Phew...I am tired just thinking about all those hours in coach:) Here are some pictures from our last safari, and some of the other trips: http://www.pbase.com/jazzdrew/root Anyway, our friends have never considered a safari before we "talked" them into it, so I need to keep it rather economical and fairly mainstream. So far we are considering: Tanzania in June/July 2009 Tarangire (Kikoti) Ngorongoro (Serena or Sopa) Serengeti (Central either Serena or Oldavai camp and Kirawira or Mbalgeti). Any suggestions? I really to do a nice tent (we did Tortilis, Lake Manyara Tree Lodge and Kirawira last time), but need to really keep the budget much lower! JAMBO :) Andy |

I recognize your guide, Salvatory. He's been along on a couple of our trips ... what a nice guy :) |
Yep, Tarangire Safari Lodge. Our tent was furthest to the right.

I only guessed on the caucusing. You're one of the 6%!
Your choices look good. How nice you have convinced friends to join you. |
Bill - You are right...Salvatore was great. We could not have asked for a nicer, more professional guide. We already plan to request him again! Sanjay (Roy's Safari) was very patient with us last time as we planned our first safari. I imagine he assigned Salvatore to us as we may have seemed in need of a great guide:) We were lucky to have found Roy's and Salvatore for our first experience.
Atravelynn - Planning this safari may be a bit of a challenge for me, as we will likely be 3 families (with children ages 8 - 14) totaling 11 people! And we need to keep the price down. That is whay I am starting out early. And to make things a bit more complicated, none of the other families had even considerd a safari until a few weeks ago, and so I need to educate them. The moms are just as "protective and concerned" as my wife was when I first suggested taking the family to a "third world". So the learning curve for the other 2 families could be a challenge! I'm afraid that they still don't understand that you need to plan EARLY, especially to get 3 families to see the migration in the right camps. I'll keep you posted! |
