Camping advice

Dear fellow travelers,

In March 2022 we (me and a friend together with 3 other teams) are going to drive by car from the North of France towards Gambia. At arrival in Gambia we give the cars to the locals to support them and we fly back home to Europe.
During the trip we will be sleeping in hotels/airbnb/hostels/b&b's or in a tent. What kind of tent do you recommend for use in Africa? The material must be cotton, because that provides protection against the heat, i guess. Prefer to have a light tent that fits in a backpack and can be carried easily, but cotton can be bit heavy compared to nylon, which is less suitable for hot areas. Looking at what the nomads use, seems like pretty simple to me, but I don't have the space to bring these big size tents.

Thanks a lot!

Any experienced travelers who have been camping in this region in the past and have slept in a tent?
