camera tips?

Hi! Someone recently told me that her friend visited Egypt and all his pictures were ruined because sand got into his camera. I'm planning to go to Egypt in March and was wondering if this is a common problem and if anyone has any tips on how to avoid this situation. Obviously, it would be devastating to lose all my pictures!

Thanks for your help!

Plastic bags are recommended.

When not using your camera, be sure to place it in a plastic bag and back into your camera case. And don't ever leave it out unattended in direct sunlight. Did your friend actually find sand inside the camera? Strange!

I've been in various desert countries (with sand and/or road dust) and have never had a problem. I can only assume that the seams of the camera were damaged or your friend wound up in a sand storm. Beats me!

I've been photographing the world for many years and never had that problem. I even lived in Egypt for six months back in the days when I could only afford a cheap camera but still had no problems.

Exercise common sense and you'll have no worries.
You'll have more chance of having your camera stolen than ruined by sand.

Like I said. Exercise common sense.
