Cairo tunnel to Museum

I've heard that there's a tunnel that leads from just outside the Ramses Hilton directly to the Museum of Antiquities. Is anyone familiar with this tunnel? Is it considered safe? How long is the walk?

I've heard the hotel is fairly close to the Museum but that it's impossible to cross the street.

I believe you are referring to the Metro tunnels, they are marked with large red M's. It's been about a year since I've been in them, but I think they do go from the Ramses Hilton side of the street. The tunnels do go under several of the major streets. They are reasonably safe, common sense and watch for pickpockets, the same as any big city. The major problem is when you come out of the tunnel and are looking around to get your bearings, you WILL be offered help, don't accept it unless you want to visit his brother's cousins' nephews' perfume shop. The distance is not bad, much better than trying to go above ground.
