Cairo to Tapa to Petra? HOW?

At the conclusion of our Cairo/Nile tour, we will end up back in Cairo, and are thinking of extra days to allow a day or two in Petra, Jordan. Can one fly to Tapa, and then hook up with a tour of Petra?

Our last day in Cairo is at the Marriott, and we are thinking they could assist us in getting to Tapa, which is only an hour drive to Petra. (I've emailed them on this)

Does anyone out there have any knowledge of the Taba Heights Marriott Beach Resort? And the quality of the snorkeling opportunity? The resort has a high rating, but I don't recall anyone referring to it in Post messages. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in avance. gam

hope it is not too late.

Yes there are flights from Cairo to Taba and plenty of nice hotels there (Hyatt, Marriott etc..). Trips to Petra in Jordan are organized from there. The bus goes from Taba to Nueiba (a sea port in Sinai) then corss by ferry to the Jordanian port of Aqaba, from where buses drive north to reach Petra.

We are thinking of this same trip. How did you make the journey from Cairo to Petra? We do not want to fly but are intimidated about multiple border crossings. Any advice?

The Taba airport is closed so you can fly to Sharm and then take the bus to Taba and then cross the border but the catamarin from Nuweiba to Aqaba is more direct. Only 1 border to cross.

Make sure you get a multiple entry visa for Egypt.
