Cairo to Abu Simbel

I'm planning a trip to Egypt this October and would like to go from Cairo to Abu Simbel to Aswan on Wed Oct 8th. Can I pre-book this flight on my own? I'm having trouble doing it from the Egypt Air website. Thanks.

I called the Misr travel office in New York and booked. Had no problems.

Do you know how much they quoted you? I've gotten some quotes in the $300 US range for flight only.

I don't remember, but IIRC, it wasn't much, compared to the overall price of the trip. It's a longer flight than I had thought. At least, Aswan to Abu Simbel was, don't know about the rest since we took the overnight train to Luxor and the cruise to Aswan. ~ $300 sounds about right, I think.

Keep in mind that when Egypt Air quotes a flight to Abu Simbal, they are including transfers to the temple and back to the airport as well as a tourguide for you.

It's a complete package with Egypt Air. I have NO idea how good their guides are, but I suspect they are average.

Can't tell you what we paid as it was part of our package. But it did include the flight CAI/Abu Simbel and back to Aswan; also the bus transfer to/from the site.

We were told to use one of the guides at entrance to the site, which we and a few other English speakers did (we were a group of about 8)*. Guide was very good, excellent command of English, thorough, willing to answer questions. After touring the two temples and inside of the mountain on which the temple is built, we had time to wander about and take photos.

*there were quite a number of tour groups on our plane who each had their own individual guide

There was no fee to the guide, but a tip was suggested and which we gladly handed over.

Don't know whether knowledge of all guides would be similar.

we only had the flights, no guides.
