OK... Yeah, I did the same thing and one way in the middle of the night or on the 5 a.m. plane they were coming up at LE255. The flights I would rather take, if I have to pay for a hotel room anyway were more, like you said.

Yeah, I wouldn't take those either. I lucked out. My 275LE flight was around 2:30pm or 3, so you figure you check out at noon, get to the airport. Fit perfectly. It's partly luck and part diligence. Sometimes they add flights.

Well, that pretty much sums up life in Cairo!!!

Had a July 4th BBQ with a bunch of former Cairo ex-pats had we had a great time looking back on our years there - with varying degrees of fondness!!! Some will never go back. Me - I'd be back in a heart-beat!!!

and we'd be happy to have you back any time Grcxx3. Those others that would never come back probably winged all the way to the bank, every month, didn't they? Poor babies. I hope they are happy back home.

Thanks all for the helpful feedback! Do you guys recommend tickets be purchased in advance? If so, how? I cannot find any reliable website. I am trying to book a sleeper car from Cairo to Luxor for July 27 2010, or preferably from Alexandria to Luxor (if possible).

@ Grcxx3, LOL. I guess leaving and never coming back is better than staying and constantly complaining as some do.

Doctorj2000, people have had varying degrees of luck pre-booking diretly with Abela Egypt. Replies to emails are sporadic and getting someone to actually answer the phone AND speak English can be a challenge, but for those who did receive replies to emails, Abela pre-booked the tickets which the clients then picked up and paid for 48hours before departure.

The alternative would be to get an agency in Cairo to book the tickets and deliver them to your hotel. They do charge a fee.

I really wouldn't worry about getting seats in July. If you have a day or two in Cairo before you leave, you can just go down to the office and buy them yourself.
