Cairo on my own...sort of

I'll be in Cairo in March. I am travelling by myself (w/o husband or friends), but with a tour group. I am interested in doing things on my own in the evening, such as shopping at the Khan bazaar. Will I have alot of trouble if I go alone?

I should mention that I have travelled extensively on my own (cambodia, china, throughout US), but I'm wondering if being alone there will attract unwanted attention or be risky...

You should be perfectly fine. Just remember when in Cairo, to dress appropriately... no shorts or tank tops. Arms and legs should be covered. Evenings will be cool, so have a jacket or shawl.

The bazaar is busy in the evenings, especialy restaurants; many shops are open, but avoid any streets/alleys that have no people or shop lights, which is plain common sense.

You can use taxi from hotel to/from bazaar. Some feel the drivers are a bit wild... and they might appear to be; we didn't find this to be the case. But then we live in NYC :)

You know why NYC taxi drivers are so wild? They all come from Cairo. (tee hee)

... Cairo, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Bangkok, and, and...... few homegrown taxi drivers anymore :)
