Cairo Arrival Procedure

I will be traveling in less than two weeks and would like to know the procedures when arriving at Cairo airport.....buy visa, clear immigration, collect bags? Is there a bank before exiting to change money? I will be arriving mid-day.

I am looking forward to the trip of a lifetime thanks to all the information I have gathered from this forum!

Buy Visa (USD$15), go to queue to clear Immigration, then collect bags... you've got it right! Before departing Baggage Claim and exiting, there is a currency exchange window.

Are you American? The visa procedures might differ if you're not (I ask because of your screen name).

Yes, American ex-pat for 23 years in Guatemala!

I got my visa at one of the banks right before Immigration/passport control and it was super easy. Just like sandi said, it was $15 US and there was absolutely no waiting and no forms to fill out. Then pick up your bags and you're there! Have a great time.

Tagging for my future reference :)

Have fun Judi!

Same, and they take US dollars!

Judi, where in Guatemala do you live (we know several people who've been there as teachers, Peace Corps. and with a group like Doctors without Borders)?

Tickleddpink, can you please explain this......the idea of no lines and no forms has me excited!

Grcxx3 Oct 25th, 2009 04:04 PM

Forms - (for US citizens) nothing needed except your passport and money (exact change makes it even easier!)
Lines - depends on the flight, but usually goes pretty quickly.
Bank - usually right next to the visa window. Easy!

Arrival mid-day! That's a new one to me! I swear - I think I always left and arrived into Cairo in the middle of the night. No - not true - Austrian Air got us in mid-afternoon.....such a treat!
