Buying Carpets in Morocco

We're travelling to Morocco soon, and planning on coming home with quite a few carpets. Does anyone have advice on how to tell the quality of the carpets? Any idea on prices? And, of course, any "preferred" places to go carpet shopping?

Advice on finding a good driver would also be appreciated.

Heidi, there's a thread in the European forum about carpet buying. If you do a search, you might be able to find it. From the sounds of it, it's quite a pressure filled experience in Morocco. We bought a very small carpet during our recent trip to Turkey and I love it. I'm so glad we got it.

After we got back a month ago, I saw an article in the Frommers magazine about carpet buying. You might want to check it out. I know that next time, I'll want to know more before I buy.

if you do not know carpets well
I would advise either learning a lot more or just not buying one there.
or content to over pay for one.

they play hard and fast when selling carpets, very high profit for them.

this is from someone who regularly goes
to morocco on buying trips
