Bushmanskloof Wilderness reserve

I just asked this question in another post because I couldn't figure out how to start a new one. Anyway, my friend and I (2 females any suggestions)are traveling to Capetown and of course what to go to a game reserve. Can anyone tell me about Bushmanskloof and is it better than Addo or one of the other game parks in the region?

Hi Irene,<BR>Bushman's Kloof is quite spectacular and a relatively new (it is itself rather ancient)addition to tourism offerings. Both animals, plants and trees are indigineous but many have only recently been reintroduced. It is more wilderness than the wilderness!<BR>The accommodation is very classy and their prices are all inclusive. To me they offer a pretty good and a bit different look at South Africa. Probably best known for the absolutely fantastic cave art to be seen on the cave walls that was put there by the ancient San people. I, myself have not booked anyone in there but it sure was not for want of trying. But most of my clients are golfers and there is not a major course close enough. If you go, please let me know what you think. That area of South Africa is, to me, a super spot but it seems to often get left out. Is it better than Addo etc.? Depends on what is better to you. It is definitely less travelled and therefore more pristine and it is definitely different. Where ever you end up, have a great time. Karen

Thx for the info Karen. I think we will check it out. We are planning to do Bushmans Kloof and the winelands. Am I correct that they are in the same general area, or should I say direction?

May I also ask if this is as close to a safari experience as I can get with only 6 days in the Cape Town area? Thx again

Hi again Irene,<BR>The Bushmans Kloof website has a very good map.As you can see it is on the Atlantic side and north of Cape Town. Paarl and Stellenbosch are in the Wine District and as you can see they are not to far out of Cape Town. This is the URL to the map http://www.bushmanskloof.co.za/map.htm<BR>If you take off the /map.htm you will see the rest of their site. I think you may find it very natural - no Hollywood type stuff here - very tranquil, and very different. If you go to Bushmans Kloof, it IS a safari - not just close. You may find a different attitude going in this direction as the Indian Coast route traditionally gets the tourists and while they try hard to see that you get a good safari, because it is less hectic, the Bushman folk maybe try a wee bit harder or maybe it's just because they are less stressed out :o) There are other places with San art but I doubt very much if you will find a better showing of it anywhere else. They have a very informative site so go check it out. Karen
