Burkina Faso travel tips route tourist attractions photo gallery

I want to share with the community some tourist information and experience of my recent trip in Burkina Faso

A circular route of about 900 miles in 9 days in the southwestern part of the Country , mainly visiting small rural villages , some small towns and some Protected Natural Parks . Burkina Faso astonishes and surprises positively , the diversity of culture derived by the presence of the many ethnic groups living there , makes even better and special this fascinating Country . Gorgeous the architecture of the typical houses which varies depending of the ethnic group prevalent that lives in that particular zone

Below the list of the main places that I have visited ( may be useful to better plan a trip )

> Tiébélé : it is a small and beautiful village inhabited by ethnic group of Gurunsi ( or Grunshi ) , the typical traditional houses are called Sukhala and are among the most beautiful in all West African , the houses are decorated and colored with geometric patterns red white and blacks . To visit nearby the small village of Kampala and the city of Po , are interesting both for the lively and picturesque market

> Bobo Dioulasso : is a very lively and pleasant city with colonial atmosphere buildings , it is inhabited mainly the ethnic groups of Bobo and Dioula ( or Jula ) . It is the greenest city in the Country ; the oldest part is suggestive and very interesting , Mosque with Sudanese architecture style ( or Sahelian ) is the symbol of the city , do not miss the Grand Marchè , the building of the railway station in Neo Moorish style . Nearby to visit the rural village of Soumousso

> Banfora : is a small town not particularly interesting but useful as basis to visit the surroundings

Surroundings of Gaoua :

What gorgeous photos ! I haven't finished looking at them yet. If I were younger, I'd make a trip there. I became interested in B.F. when it was called Upper Volta. At the NY World's Fair of '64 I bought a red, white, and black handbag decorated with cowrie shells from there. I still have it.

Wow - those are some fabulous photos.

I've been following someone on Instagram who was just in Burkina Faso and it looks fascinating. I love the mosque architecture which is so reminiscent of Mali.

We are just back from Sudan and this is certainly somewhere we'd love to travel, can I ask you did you use a local agent and if so would you recommend them?
