Botswana -- Chitabe or a mixed land/water camp
Okay everyone -- one more thought. We were set on Chitabe for Aug/Sept because of the potential for good cat action there (this is an extension to a 10 night mobile camping trip). But we're also thinking we might want to experience a little of the water activities & water scenery in the delta (without sacrificing too much on the potential for lions, leopards, and cheetahs on game drives). What would be the best mixed land/water activity camp?
Thanks. Laura. |
Of the ones I've been to - I'd suggest Tubu Tree. It's good for general game viewing - we saw lots of lions and we saw leopards mating at this camp too - though I don't recall cheetah sightings during out stay.
And when the floods are in (as they should be in June) they should be able to drive you the short distance to the waters and take you out on mokoros. Location is quite near to Jacane and Jao so a beautiful area. |
Laura,
I would think Kwara or little Vumbura would be very nice with a slight preference for Kwara. Have a look at the following website to check out the sightings at Kwara: www.eyesonafrica.net. Although I haven't seen any leopard in the Vumbura concession I had very good sighings of caraccal, cheetah, serval and lion. Recommended guides at Little Vumbura if they are still there: Dukes or Katembo. Recommended guides at Kwara: Mothusi, Doctor and Joe. I have only been once at Tubu Tree. It was a very nice camp but I was a bit unlucky with the sightings. Although I heard that other people have seen great stuff. Greetings, Johan |
Thank you. Can you compare Little Vumbura with Vumbura for wildlife viewing?

Laura,
LV and vumbura plains, you can expect to access the same area.....it's not a huge concession. I second Johan's Kwara suggestion if you want a mixed activity camp......and predators. But you are unsure of Aug/sept or May??? For May, definitely Kwara and Chitabe. August/sept they should all be fine......LV, Kwara, Tubu |
