Bon Voyage to me (for tomorrow!)
 

After months of excitement and really not that much planning... just a few emails here and there and voila.. I was happy with my itinerary.

Don't be envious of me tomorrow.... I have 30 plus hours flying time & 2 long 8 hour stop overs from Australia. Think of me the following day!

Thank you everyone who offered me advice, hints and suggestions... I am so glad I found this site early on in my investigations. It was the Fodors board that introduced me to Lady Egypt .. so again, thank you!

Today, We started a dialogue with a travel agent to plan a trip to Egypt in March. It will be a cruise on the Nile.

Marianna, just to be clear -- you do know that the Nile cruises do not visit Cairo?

I hope she understands that as it is CRITICAL if she wants to see the pyramids.
Maianna, ask your questions here as it is totally possible you won't get a knowledgeable or honest opinion from the agent you are working with necessarily. Be sure you know what you are getting for your time and money.

Yes, we know that. The actual boat cruises we were discussing start in Luxor and end in Abu Simbel. We can either explore Cairo at the start of the trip or at the end with flights taking us to Luxor or from Abu Simbel to Cairo, depending on what we decide to do. We are just in the beginning stages of doing our research so we have a lot to do before reserving anything.

What we want is the most luxurious boat cruise available so that is what we are looking into with the travel agent.

Are you doing 2 different boat cruises? There are cruises that go to/from Luxor and Aswan (normally called Nile River cruises) and there are cruises that go to/from Aswan and Abu Simbel (normally called Lake Nasser cruises).

Most people do the Nile cruises and then visit Abu Simbel as a day trip (or sometimes an overnight trip).

I'm not sure what the status is now, but when I lived there..."the" boat to go on was the Oberoi Philae.

It is a Nile River Cruise. I just re-read the information we have so far from the agent and it said that there is a motor launch which goes to Abu Simbel. We are still researching and learning about various options. Since this is a one time trip, we want to do it right with luxury level for the boat and hotels in Cairo.
