Blast near Cairo cathedral kills at least 25

Hello Friends,

I partially booked my trip with my family for Egypt from December 25th till January 2nd.

This news just came in few minutes back. Should I postpone it ??

Thanks a lot.

No one can make that decision for you.

terrible news.

THEY don't want you to go, but only you can make the decision.

It's barely made the news in the US. Very frustrating. I'm sad these things keep happening world wide.

I wouldn't change my plans but it's a personal decision only you can make. Ask yourself this - Would you change your plans to a city in your own country if there was a bombing a couple of weeks before you were visiting? Sometimes it helps to think in local terms.

If you had done research ahead of time, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Egypt's Christians have been under attack for some time. At this point, I would not cancel but I would take extra precautions around tourist sites. Eyes and ears alert. Enjoy but don't linger longer than you need to. They want you to cancel and I think we just have to go about living and enjoying our lives.

Its your decision, Paris for example has had a very bad year and yet a lot of tourists still visit it everyday. If it is too concerning go ahead and cancel. There is no fun in worrying every day and minute about safety. Hotels and tourist sites are seemingly safe though.

Friends,

Thanks for all your advice.

One of the highlights of our trip was a one night camping trip to the Western Desert with the Bedouins. White Desert camping trip in El Baharya Oasis.

In travel advisory from various countries like Canada, UK, it now specifically mentions to avoid ALL travel to desert oasis.

My kids will be surely disappointed if we were unable to go to the desert trip.

I will go ahead and cancel the whole trip.

Thanks.

You could consider Petra and Wadi Rum as a last second replacement. It might be a bit brisk. But it sounds like the kids would love Wadi Rum.

The desert destinations have not been recommended by the UK Foreign Office for quite some time. It was a "no go" according to the FCO when we went two years ago.
